Copenhagen is one of the most bike-friendly and well-connected cities in the world. Here's how to get around cheaply and easily.
The Rejsekort is a rechargeable travel card valid on metro, bus, S-tog and harbour bus. It gives you the cheapest fares automatically (up to 20% cheaper than single tickets) by calculating the exact zones you travel through.
Buy at the airport, Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) or any 7-Eleven. Costs 80 DKK deposit + top-up credit. Return the card at the end of your trip to get the deposit back.
Alternative: Use DOT Mobilbillet app (iOS/Android) to buy digital tickets directly on your phone. Also works with contactless Visa/Mastercard on most validators.
M1, M2, M3 (Cityringen), M4 (Orientkaj & BYD)
Runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – the most efficient way to get around the city. The Cityringen (M3) is a circular line with 17 stations covering all major neighbourhoods.
💳 From 24 DKK (2 zones). Day pass ~80 DKK.
⭐ Use the DOT Mobilbillet app to buy tickets before boarding. Inspectors check regularly.
A-busses (express), S-busses, night busses (N-lines)
Extensive network covering the whole city and suburbs. The A-busses are high frequency rapid routes. Night busses run when the metro is less frequent.
💳 Same zone-based pricing as metro. 2-zone ticket ~24 DKK.
⭐ Board at the front and tap your card or show ticket. Night busses run every 30 min.
Lines A, B, Bx, C, E, F, H
Suburban rail network connecting central Copenhagen (Hovedbanegården) with surrounding areas. Great for reaching the airport or North Sealand.
💳 Integrated with metro/bus zones. Use Rejsekort or buy at machines.
⭐ Runs every 10–20 min. Bikes allowed outside rush hours with a bike ticket.
Lines 991, 992, 993
A scenic and practical way to cross the harbour. Runs between Nordhavn, Nørreport, Christianshavn, Islands Brygge, Sydhavn and DR Byen.
💳 Standard zone ticket (~24 DKK). Valid with Rejsekort.
⭐ Bikes are allowed on board! A great way to see the harbour while commuting.
Classic & e-bikes – pick up & drop off at any public bike rack
Donkey Republic is the main dockless bike share in Copenhagen. Unlock via the app and leave anywhere in the city zone. Classic bike: 12 DKK for first 10 min, then 1.2 DKK/min (max 250 DKK/day). E-bike: 20 DKK for first 10 min, then 2.75 DKK/min (max 750 DKK/day). Day passes available from 39 DKK (1h classic) up to 129 DKK (24h classic) or 59–219 DKK for e-bike.

Copenhagen uses a zone-based pricing system. Most city-centre journeys require only 2 zones (~24 DKK). The airport (CPH) is in zone 4 from the city centre, requiring a 3-zone ticket (~36 DKK).
A 24-hour pass (all zones) costs ~130 DKK and is great value if you're making more than 5 journeys in a day.
